Employment Law Attorney for Employers and Employees
E dward F. Broderick Jr. is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Notre Dame Law School. Before entering the private practice of law he served for three years in the United States Air Force, completing one year of flight training before joining the Judge Advocate General's office. Upon leaving active duty he joined the Air Force Reserve. He retired from the Reserve as a colonel in 1987.
He has been engaged in the private practice of law since 1960, first with his father, Edward F. Broderick, who later became a Superior Court Judge, and then as senior partner in Broderick and Grather, the predecessor of Broderick, Newmark and Grather. His practice has included significant personal injury and wrongful death actions, employment law, civil rights litigation and aviation safety. He has tried hundreds of cases both civil and criminal before juries and as bench trials.
Among his most notable cases were the highly publicized premises liability case arising out of the abduction and murder of a young woman from the Morris County Mall and the litigation between the Township of Hanover and the Town of Morristown over the expansion of the Morristown Airport . This case was successfully defended before the United States Supreme Court. Several of his cases have resulted in published opinions by the courts of New Jersey . These include Hoeller v. Coleman, 73 N.J. Super 502 (A.D. 1962), In the Matter of Application of Mr. M for writ of habeas corpus, 74 N.J. Super 178 (A.D. 1962), Township of Hanover v. Town of Morristown, 121 N.J. Super 536 (A.D. 1972), Peck v. Imedia, 293 N.J. Super 151 (A.D. 1996) and Chelly v. Knoll Pharmaceuticals, 292 N.J. Super 478 (A.D.1996).
He is an elected fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a sustaining member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, a former member of the Morris County District X Ethics Committee, and a member of the Supreme Court's Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law. He has been certified as a Civil Trial Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey since 1982.
